August 29, 2009

METS: A LOST SEASON

August 27, 2009

I am not a Mets fan, but I  feel for their fans. It has been a lost season where the Mets have been more interesting off the field then on it. When does the soap opera end? They have a great fan base and they suffer due to poor decisions by management.

man of his word

August 15, 2009

Roger Goodell said he would lay down the discipline after his appointment as NFL Commissioner. He has been a man of his word. His season long suspension of Donte Stallworth this week speaks volumes and the NFL needs it at this time.

CAN IT BE?

August 10, 2009

Can it be that on August 11, my Yankees are ahead of the Boston Red Sox by 6 1/2 games? After a few years of looking up at them, the pinstripes are back in first place this late in the season-bring home the pennant , guys!

Smoltz and Giambi: Time to Retire

August 9, 2009

John Smoltz and Jason Giambi saw their respective careers perhaps come to end this week as both were released by their teams: Red Sox and A’s. Like some ball players who have suffered injuries in the latter part of their career, they try to comeback for one last bit of glory. Sadly, they find out the hard way that it is over. Both have had fine careers. It is time to walk away.

Close to Home

August 9, 2009

Former Greeneville Astros’ player Mitch Einertson, has been suspended for 50 games for violating minor league baseball’s drug policy for a second time. Einertson, who hit 24 home runs as a Greeneville Astro in 2004-winning Appalachian League Player of the Year honors while helping Greeneville to a league title in its first year, was hitting .260 with eight home runs and 33RBis in 88 games this season at AA Corpus Christi. It boggles the mind what these players are thinking about. Surely they know they are going to be tested. Are they just being foolish? There are many people young and old would love to have even one day as a professional ball player.

Rest in peace, Budd

August 6, 2009

Legendary screenwriter Budd Schulberg passed away this week at age 95. A boxing historian, Schulberg scripted “Onthe Waterfront,” and his great boxing film, “The Harder They Fall,” the last film of Humphrey Bogart’s career. Rest in peace, Budd, and thanks for those lasting images.

“BIG BUCKS” MANNING!

August 5, 2009

Eli, not Peyton, Manning, is about to become the NFL’s highest paid player by signing a seven year, $106.9 million dollar contract. Time to call him “Big Bucks,” Manning.
